Akademik Hut is a solid three-storey building in the Leshchensko locality of the Rhodope Mountains, about 4 km above the village of Hrabrino. Its old name is “Rodopski Partizani”. It was built in 1964–1965 by an initiative committee led by the Serkedzhiev family, and until 1989 it was run by the Plovdiv tourist society “Akademik”. About 200 m from the hut lies the partisan dugout of the “G. Dimitrov” detachment.
The building has rooms with 2–3 beds as well as larger rooms with shared washrooms, local central heating, water and electricity. The hut has a tourist kitchen and a dining room, and there is parking for about 30 cars in front of it. The building has undergone major renovation.
A marked red trail leads from the hut to Bryanovshtitsa Hut (1 h 30 min), and Varhovrah Hut is reached in about 4 hours. The descent to the village of Hrabrino takes about 1 hour by a marked path.
