Ruen Shelter is a single-storey solid building with two rooms, tables, benches and solid-fuel stoves. There are no beds. It stands on the site of a former border guard post, which was converted into a shelter in 2006 by the Osogovo tourist society.
The shelter is located near Ruen peak (2251 m), the highest peak of the mountain. It is unstaffed. In winter it is often buried in snow for long periods, and the approaches to it are prone to avalanches.
The main route starts from Osogovo Hut (about 3.5 h), and another from Gyueshevo village (about 4 h). Prevala Shelter is reached in about 2 h. Nearby are Shapka peak (2188 m, about 30 min), Baltadzhiynitsa peak (1995 m, about 40 min) and Zhdrapanitsa peak (1814 m, about 1.5 h).
